The Wok

Joshua and I have been anticipating the night we would get to use our wok for the first time. It was a wedding gift purchased with our BB&B gift cards. So for those of you who gave us gift cards for a wedding gift, you can see it in action! Menu for the evening: chicken and vegetable stir-fry with rice.

Oh, and I need to add that Josh kindly volunteered to cook the entire meal so I could continue my workout. What a nice husband! :-D

First things first: rice needs to be rinsed. Josh wasn't too happy about that, but it only takes about four swishes in the bowl for the rice to be completely rinsed.

Josh begrudgingly rinsing the rice

Note: the vegetable stir-fry mix is from Trader Joe's. So convenient. I LOVE TJ's!

Sizzling in the wok

Dinner's ready! Accompanied by an episode of Lost
(Yes, we're addicted, and we missed the last episode)

We're so happy that the wok is now an active member of the Downing kitchen, and we look forward to many meals together.

The Beginning

Hello all!  We're just starting our blog out, and hopefully you can use it to keep track of our latest fun.  And our recent trip to Washington will kick it off!

With a last-minute decision, we flew up to the Evergreen State to visit our good friends and family.

Jen's cousin Emily picked us up from the airport, and we spent the afternoon and evening with her, Brandon, and Caleb walking on Ruston Way and watching the Olympics.

Friday morning, Jen's "McChord Mom" Cheryl picked us up for breakfast, and we got to catch up.  We hadn't seen her since the wedding!

Later that day we hung out with Billy, Jon & Laura, and Chad in Seattle.  The guys checked out some music stores while the ladies shopped to their hearts' content.  We added Josh & Chelsea to the group for dinner on the Seattle waterfront at Anthony's.

The next day Billy, Chad, Jon, and I drove to Mt. Baker for a day of snowboarding (pics and videos to come... hopefully!) while Laura and Jen did some more shopping in Seattle.  We all met again later that night for dinner at Katie Downs in Tacoma.

It was sad to have to leave everyone and Washington Sunday morning.  We definitely hope to be back soon!
